What's Your Number?

This is a Flash Fiction Friday 55 hosted by Mr. Knowitall. For more 55's pay him a visit - http://g-man-mrknowitall.blogspot.com/

I long for the time before cholesterol was invented. Back when bacon was a perfectly acceptable meat to have with eggs, and real ice cream was a wholesome treat. Back when you didn’t have to take drugs that can cause diarrhea, constipation, dizziness, bloating, fatigue, and yellowing of the eyes to bring the number down.

  1. I'll have my bacon, ice cream and simvastatin, too. I accept a few minor side effects and a touch of gluttony over a heart attack any day.

  2. I have to take a pill for my triglycerides. I've always been a word person, but I had never seen that word until I saw it on a prescription.
I take several other prescription meds for various other conditions, too. And don't even get me started on side effects!

  3. I have the on again off again method--take the pills and mostly don't eat the bad stuff--but have it when you can no longer stand not having it. So far, none of the nasty things you mention have struck me down.

  4. Good job! Grandma was 93 when she died. She ate eggs, bacon, sausage, pork, red meat, coffee and a glass of port wine every evening. Go figure!

  8. LOL So true! I always get a kick out of the drug commercials on TV where the side effects are worse than the illness the drug is supposed to be easing.

  9. Yes...I've heard that research can cause cancer in laboratory rats. Nicely done.

  10. I was doing just find with my cholesterol reading in the upper levels of acceptable. Then the damn government lowered the standards, and suddenly I needed cholesterol meds. It wasn't me -- it was them.

And I still eat my bacon. I'll show them!
